United are linked with a move for Chelsea's Frank Lampard, according to widespread reports.

Now, why I have no problem with someone like Lampard joining the squad, it is worrying evidence of a possible lack of ambition.

I'm not sure on this. I won't be complaining if he can do the job but I'm not sure if he can. We need someone closer to Scholes, and younger. Also I question his wages? Do we want someone like this?

I liked Lampard in 2004 for England but he began to frustrate me and in my opinion shouldn't be in the squad! I don't think he is a shadow of himself at Chelsea. He has fallen out of favor more like so he could do well at United. I just don't think it is a player we should be going for, or paying wages to.

I would find it bizzare for Ferguson to want to get rid of him now mid-season and only 15 months after fighting so hard to keep him.

Seems things arent quite right since the new contract demands etc, relationship never been the same maybe Rooney's lunch the other day was the last straw.

Apparently (according to one journalist on Twitter) United are about to release a statement denying the story, though to be honest you would expect that whether it's true or not given the timing (two days before the derby).

This is just the wrong timing completely, coming off the back of two defeats completely outplayed at Newcastle to their credit, Huge game this weekend against City as i will not forget the mauling they gave us at Old Trafford in a hurry.

Whats your name on twitter? Ill follow you.

Doesnt surprise me as you said they have to deny it whether true or not but with Fergie adamant no changes to take place in January makes you think it could also be this summer and maybe a reason why Berbatov hasnt moved on. A bit dumbfounded at it all to be honest but definitely dont want a player in the team that doesnt want to be there.

United have issued a statement too.

21st Century news reporting summed up in an instant. The front cover of Saturday's Independent rendered worthless before it's even hit the shops thanks to an immediate and very public denial from all parties.

As always the reaction to anything at United is so overblown and ridiculous. He got dropped for one game and apparently we're letting him go? after just giving him a new contract? it's like they're not even trying.

If Rooney was to go I can't see another English team coughing up the required fee to land him, would only go abroad IMO.

It turns out this is just an article about the authors opinion. Basically a story on what he "thinks" is happening. How would even know?

Independent journalist James Lawton, who wrote the story, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I understand that the problems that Sir Alex Ferguson has experienced with Wayne Rooney going into a key time of the season has seriously undermined their relationship and there is a feeling that Ferguson has been deeply offended by the reaction of his most talented player at a pivotal time of the season."

But, when pushed about the claim that Rooney would be sold this month, Lawton attempted to defend himself: "The point I'm trying to make in the story, and I think it's a valid one, is that there is a real problem in the relationship between the Manchester United manager and his star player.

"I stand by the essence of what I've said in that there is a problem. Ferguson is famous for asking for trust and loyalty in his players and when that breaks, it can have a lasting effect. But if Rooney starts to perform to the level of consistent professionalism, which is a reasonable expectation, perhaps the crisis will pass."

They've got "Rooney is being sold" from the fact that he was fined for under performing in training (a fine he accepted). Fergie wont stand for that forever but if he didn't kick him out last summer he's not going to do it over this....

Just noticed he used the word "crisis". It's so funny that crisis is the most commonly used word in relation to United and yet well you know the rest. Dunno if I should laugh or sigh to be honest.

We have turned down a bid from Newcastle for Morrison - http://news.bbc.co.u...ll/16548196.stm

Agents are disgusting things. This lad has had nothing but off fields troubles and without even breaking into the team he's being advised he should be getting a big contract? ffuk off. He'll become a waste no question about it.

Paul Pogba signed for Juventus? Contract worth 1 million Euros a year and of course his slimey shitbag of an agent getting 2 million Euros.

Whether its true or not im not sure but its picking up pace in the social sites.

Theres been quite a lot of talk recently. Fantastic talent but still very raw. Hopefully all speculation but if he wants off let him go and If he's gonna have an attitude at this age he'll never change.
