Liverpool eyeing January swoop for Ajax ace

Posted Image

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.
Vertonghen, 24, was a summer target for Arsenal while Inter Milan have also been tracking his progress.
The Belgian defender has been one of the star performers for Ajax and was watched by a number of scouts during the Champions League game against Lyon last week.
Reports in Holland suggest that Liverpool are now battling Inter Milan to clinch his signature when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is hoping to strengthen his backline and give his side every chance of finishing in the top four this season.
Ajax are determined to keep Vertonghen at the club and will be hoping a lengthy run in the Champions League will persuade him to stay with the Dutch giants.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Roma Expected to Tussle for Lucas

English Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have joined Roma in tracking Sao Paulo’s exciting attacking midfielder Lucas.

The 19-year-old has shone at the Tricolor Paulista and also made a splash with Brazil’s Under-20 side before breaking through into the senior team under Mano Menezes earlier this year – Lucas made his Selecao debut against Scotland in a friendly in March.

Consistently progressing, it comes as little surprise that some of Europe’s biggest clubs are tracking the schemer closely.

According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, a three-way transfer battle between Liverpool, Tottenham and Roma is expected to erupt sooner rather than later.

Sao Paulo will be looking to realise a substantial fee for the 19-year-old when he leaves the Estadio do Morumbi.

Lucas is under contract with Sao Paulo until 2015 and, while having an release clause of some €80M, would likely be sold for closer to the €25M mark.

The midfielder has made 17 appearances in the current Brasileiro, finding the back of the net seven times.

Liverpool and Arsenal battle to sign Chelsea striker

Posted Image

Arsenal and Liverpool will go head-to-head in a battle to sign Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou in a cut-price deal when the January transfer window opens.

The frustrated 26-year-old Ivory Coast striker is in the final year of his contract and looks increasingly unlikely to extend his stay.

It will almost certainly force Chelsea to consider offers for the versatile star or risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer and is prepared to test the water with a £6million bid in January.

But he faces growing competition from Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool, who are also monitoring the situation.

Kalou was axed after appearing in the opening two Premier League games for Chelsea, played against Fulham in the Carling Cup and came on as late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Valencia in the Champions League.

He conceded a late penalty for handball that earned the Spaniards a point.

Talks over extending his contract were put on hold leading to speculation he was likely to leave once his deal expired.

Several clubs could take advantage of the stand-off and secure him on a pre-contractual agreement in January. But the striker, who can also play in central midfield and on the wing, is thought to favour remaining in England.

Arsenal will almost certainly be his preferred destination.

Wenger tried to buy him from Feyenoord in 2006 but lost out to Chelsea when they paid the Dutch club £9m.

But in February 2009, Kalou caused major contro versy by admitting that he would love to play for Wenger.

Liverpool target Toon's Coloccini

Posted Image

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is stepping up his interest in Newcastle's cult hero skipper Fabricio Coloccini - and weighing up a transfer window move.

Director of football Damien Comolli personally lead a two-man delegation to watch the powerful Argentina centre-half as the Reds updated their dossier on him.

Coloccini has become one of the better defenders in the Premier League and Dalglish is looking to strengthen in that department now 33-year-old Jamie Carragher is officially at the veteran stage.

Newcastle, who have already sold Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique to Liverpool in 2011, would look for a big fee for a player who is the current number one idol of the Toon Army.

However, Dalglish is not afraid to spend to back his judgement and Newcastle could be pushed to sell if the offer is large enough or the player fancies the move.

Dalglish already has a handful of centre-halves in his squad, but is always on the look-out for improvement.

Coloccini, 29, has enough experience to slot straight into the side as the Anfield club target a top-four finish.

Carrols agent is rejecting reports of a £10mil move back to Newcastle. I think Liverpool would bite their hands off if they could recoup £10mil of that waste :lol
