The word biscuit actually means twice cooked, which the English version of a biscuit used to be to dry them out and make them hard (some I believe still are).

The American version of a biscuit is soft bread which is baked only once, which in language terms doesn't make sense.

Hope that helps.

Good info. I'm going to add a little to your post,,,,

"The American version of a biscuit is soft bread (with about 8 ounces of lard added for greasy goodness) which is baked only once"

:D

So should I dunk my sausage sandwich in my tea or not?
Some people feel like the bottom has dropped out of their world. Drink real ale and you'll feel like the world is dropping out of your bottom.

I wouldn't recommend dunking your sausage in any hot beverage to be fair...

I didn't realise there were these replies here, sorry everyone. I would say I was only half-baked.

A Morning is a perfect time for tea and biscuits. Or any period between Midnight and Noon. Funny how morning lasts 12 hours yet afternoon comes then evening then night then 12 hours of morning again. That's three periods of time in the same time scale as one period of time!
