The whole captaincy thing is a needless sideshow. Whoever it is, it really doesn't matter. Don't have a permanent captain that guarantees a starting place, just give it to whoever in the team has most caps. Proviso that they're capable of talking to the press without dribbling, shaking hands and swapping pennants with a foreigner, and are legally allowed to hold the hand of a small child.

The timing seemed a bit spineless. Either decide upon the accusation or conclusion of the trial, not upon greater media pressure somewhere in the middle.
