The first of Sundays games. Newcastle seem to be over their blip and are pushing on again, who would have thought they'd be above Arsenal and Liverpool at this stage of the season? The Magpies won the corresponding fixture 6-0 last season and Mcleishs record against them doesn't bode particularly well for the Villains this time out. Home win for me here 2-0.

Who needs Joey Barton when you have Danny Guthrie? Another great performance from the latter, and I certainly did not see him raising his game to this level. Even Perch was ok in the defensive role.

Villa were dangerous in the first half. They played the ball quickly to the attacking four of Bent, Keane, Insomnia and Ireland who looked at times to repeat what Fulham did to us. After the break we kept most of the ball and for some reason Villa were limited to kicking the ball to Bent who had no support at all. I thought that our second was only a matter of time and it could not have been a better way to introduce the new # 9 to the fans. A great first touch and a left-footed shot into the top corner.

What a season. I'm almost turning back into an optimist.
