Dalglish’s future at Liverpool, time for a little conjecture and supposition.

OK Liverpool may still be in both domestic cups but the real barometrical indicator of veracity is league position and anything falling short of a top four position can only be deemed as failure.
When Dalglish was appointed amidst much furore and unenlightened anticipation it was abundantly obvious to me that he was always going to fall well short of expectancy, I certainly wasn’t alone in that belief on here, there were others who thought the same, Martin, Micky and Indigo immediately spring to mind.
Now with the damage done to the Liverpool brand with the events of recent weeks or to be more precise the handling of said events it is entirely conceivable that the inevitable could come to be perhaps even more quickly than at first thought.
I certainly think that there are a couple of occurrences over the last few days that could hasten FSG’s hand.
Firstly the global reaction to recent events have seemingly forced the owners to intervene and in a classic case of damage limitations forced Suarez and more damningly Dalglish to issue formal apologies for their actions.
Secondly Liverpool’s shirt sponsors who pay some £20m a year for the privilege) have reportedly had “robust” dialogue with the owners expressing their dissatisfaction with recent events and the negative effect it could indeed have on their own brand.

Now the American owners of Liverpool are clearly good businessmen and will not be hogtied by the near messiah like adulation that is bestowed on Dalglish by the Anfield faithful and if he is perceived as not being up to the job both in terms of on and off the field management (which to me clearly he isn’t) he could well be out sooner rather than later. To this end I would not be surprised if there is now a contingency plan to move him out this summer should he fail in that probable prerequisite of a top four position.
Of course they couldn’t just give him his walking papers, should they do so they would risk losing the fans. However as I have mentioned already I believe them to be astute business men and in all probability have an understanding with Dalglish that should he not achieve the necessary, he will step down by his own choice and volition (or at least that will be story and appearance for public consumption)

Either way I expect the machinations of business are currently in full swing.

I would be amazed if he was still there next season, I'd also be quite happy :lol

I have no doubt that they will be looking to a new manager, I also have no doubt Kenny will not be sacked he will "chose to leave the position" and more importantly I'm sure he "will have assisted in picking the right manager". Of course he wont have actually done either but if the owners don't say both then they will be doomed by the Kop.

There is no way they will finish the top 4 this season, and they really need to figure a better way to spend their money. Carrol, Downing, Henderson and Adam cost a fortune in total and have not improved them from last season. It's been a common thing since Benitez for Liverpool to spend big with no return, that can't go on forever not in todays game.

To be honest even if they had been successful I didn't think Dalglish would stick around for long, no more than a couple of seasons as the impression I have had of him for a long while is that he no longer enjoys the pressure of managing a football team.

Before this becomes an excuse for a Liverpool bashing, it should perhaps be remembered that not all the money they have spent has gone down the drain. Torres worked out all right for them, Alonso not bad either, Meireles, to name just three.

Benitez certainly had his faults but he came as close as any of their recent managers to taking them back to the title and for my money is a far better manager than Dalglish. I think judgement on Benitez is clouded by the fact that the majority of Liverpool fans seemed unable to recognise any of his flaws, he was a thoroughly decent manager just not as good as the kop thought he was. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see him back in the hotseat there at somepoint.

How about Capello as manager of Liverpool come the start of next season?

Never wanted Dalglish to stay, he was the sticking plaster last season, not the solution. Rafa won't come back, wouldn't want him back either, we've moved on.......not sure what the answer is other than to attract someone with the offer of a big purse to spend.......

Capello would be a great appointment for Liverpool.

Surprised Liverpool are being written off already. Dalglish doesn't have the tactical knowledge to be Liverpool's solution in the long term - their home record this season makes that abundantly clear, but the reality is that despite all that they're only 4 points adrift of fourth. With Suarez back in the side they've as much chance of 4th place as Chelsea and Arsenal, who both seem intent on continuing to stumble their way to the end of the season.

Their signings last summer looked a bit strange, but I guess it's difficult for them to attract the really top players with no Champions League football on offer. If anything they've coped quite well considering the number of key players they've lost in the past couple of seasons.
Wigan Athletic - last on Match of the Day since 2005.

They need to show their intent and go out and get Sam Allardyce, possibly now, no time to lose. This would show the top teams they mean business.
